Anxiety, a word overused by so many people but yet only a quarter on them really know what anxiety is.

The only ones who truly understand it are the people who live with it on daily basis.

"Just relax, it's just stress" The next person who tells me this during another of my anxiety attack will probably get a fast back hand across their face. I AM NOT STRESSED...but now you just got me stressed with your stupid comment... ok... sorry...got carried away there.

Where was I...

Today I wanted to share with you some tricks I have gathered along the way that help me cope with my anxiety. Note: I am not a doctor nor a health professional, just your average anxiety sufferer gal.

Plan A - Breath...

Yes I know everywhere we read about anxiety it tells you to breath, like if we don't know how. They say you shouldn't believe everything you read on the World Wide Web right?!?! Seriously, I have been breathing since birth, I think I know what I'm doing!! Well actually we don't. Pushing your stomach out when you inhale and tucking it in when you exhale is the correct way to take deep breaths. Right now some of are reading and trying it at the same time! Did you notice..right before I mentioned that your stomach was doing the opposite, going in when inhaling and out when exhaling. So when the start of an anxiety attack take some deep breath by focusing on your stomach. This helps.

Plan B - Distraction

The brain is a majestic, powerful, magical, monumental and indispensable organ that acts as our Fairy Godmother one minute and the Wicked Witch of the West the other. (Yes, this just happened, my brain is apparently based on a Disney movie.) Anyhow! When you are having an anxiety attack, instead of dwelling on the fact that you are having an anxiety attack, refocus your brain on something else. Keeping your brain distracted is like throwing water on the Wicked Witch...it just disappears! (I'm meltingggggg).

- Count from 100 to 0 skipping 3. ex. 100, 97, 94, 91....

- Sing!!! Any song you love, sing it loud, sing it silly, just sing!

- Play sudoku, great way to distract yourself and even perhaps make you fall asleep. Zzzzz

I'll have more tips for you in my next blog, but for now try these and let me know how it works out!!!

xx
